A Quick Look Back Improves Forward Focus

Hey Guys,
In this edition, I’m marking two notable events!
But first, welcome to the LenDentonThrive Letter, my weekly newsletter focused on helping 50+ Guys lose weight, get fit, and stay fit for life. We do that by building our ThriveLives!
The ThriveLife is my science-based, food-first, gym-optional approach to creating a sustainable, enjoyable, and healthy lifestyle - without relying on crazy diets or grueling workouts.
Notable Event #1: This is the 100th edition of my LenDentonThrive Letter! Edition #1 was published on May 6, 2023. The Letter has come a long way, and I’m thankful for those of you who are regular readers.
Notable Event #2: This is Stent Day!
What is Stent Day?
Today, March 29, 2025 marks one year since I had a stent placed in my Lower Anterior Descending (LAD) artery after experiencing a 95% blockage in that artery. Doctors call a blockage like this “the widow-maker” because most guys don’t survive it. But, I am a very blessed and fortunate guy!
So, I decided to commemorate every March 29th as Stent Day for a couple of reasons:
I want to thank God for seeing me through that experience.
To share the experience with other 50+ Guys.
I initially wrote about my stent experience here last year. And, as a health and fitness writer, I really struggled with whether I should go public with it.
After all, the popular view of health and fitness we see on social media and in the press is all about big muscles and chiseled abs.
Writing about heart disease is a major buzz kill!
But… my target audience is 50+ Guys. And the #1 killer of 50+ Guys is heart disease!
So, I decided to share my story, hoping it would be instructive for other 50+ Guys. And it’s why I’ll bring it up again here today - on Stent Day!
I know a lot of 50+ Guys who are ignoring their health, especially their heart health. Most of my 50+ friends hate going to the doctor. Recently, a 52-year-old acquaintance of mine passed away suddenly from untreated heart disease! He left a big hole!
So, yeah… I’m gonna talk about Stent Day! And to mark its importance, here are 5 things that I encourage every 50+ Guy to do:
Get a check-up - if you haven’t had a physical exam in 12 months, schedule one right away. Early detection is the best defense against early death! Annual check-ups are the best and least expensive ways to accomplish this. Do it for your family!
Manage your meds - if you’re on medication, take your medication. If you don’t like your meds, talk to your doctor.
Improve your nutrition - your diet is the most powerful tool you have to improve your health. The kitchen matters more than the gym!
Start walking - walking is the best way to lose weight and build heart health. The gym is good, but walking is better!
Build your ThriveLife - accomplish all of the above by creating your ThriveLife. It's the best way for 50+ Guys to lose weight, get fit, and stay fit for life. My cardiologist told me that my ThriveLife saved my life. It can do the same for you!
