The Fat Loss Cheat Code For 50+ Guys

Reading Time: About 4 Minutes
Hey Brothers!
Welcome to the LenDentonThrive Letter! I'm on a mission to help 50+ Guys like you and me to lose weight, get fit, and stay fit for life. This week, let's talk about a simple activity that can make an extraordinary change in your health, fitness, and longevity.
Motion Is Medicine: Your Path to a Longer, Healthier Life!
We humans were designed to move. Our ancient ancestors, hunter-gatherers, moved constantly—as much as 13,000 to 20,000 steps per day. Their survival depended on it.
Today, our lives are vastly different, thanks to modern technology. We no longer need constant movement to survive. The average American adult now moves only 3,000 to 4,000 steps per day. But here's the crucial point: while our lives have changed, our biology hasn't. Humans still need to move to stay healthy.
The Power of Steps: Scientific Proof
A significant 2021 study from the United Kingdom tracked 2,000 adults for over 10 years, measuring their daily step counts. The findings were clear: people who walked at least 7,000 steps per day had a 50-70% lower risk of mortality than those who took fewer steps. This is a huge benefit!
Think about it: what other simple, accessible activity offers a similar 50-70% reduction in mortality risk? This proves that simply walking 7,000 or more steps per day can bend your mortality curve downward, leading to a longer life. We get to choose whether we're on that healthier path.
Why Motion is Your Best Medicine
Motion truly is the best kind of medicine.
It's free.
It's easy.
It's effective.
It's a life-extension technology available to almost everyone!
This consistent movement, often referred to as "Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis" (NEAT), accounts for 15-30% of your daily calorie use, and you have significant control over it. Increasing your NEAT is a great return on investment for calorie burning.
Your Action Plan to Move Smarter
Ready to put motion to work for you as part of your "Moving Smarter" strategy? Here are some suggestions:
If you're not currently moving regularly: Start at a comfortable level. Don't overdo it initially. Gradually build up to 7,000 steps per day (or more). Then, make it a daily habit.
If you're already moving or walking: Work your way up to 7,000 steps per day in a gradual, comfortable way. Once you reach this level, keep it up daily.
If you're already doing over 7,000 steps per day: Congratulations! You're on your way to a longer, healthier life. Keep going.
Look for ways to increase your incidental steps throughout your day. Try things like taking the stairs, parking further away and taking walking meetings or phone calls.
To maximize the benefits of walking, focus on Zone 2 Cardio. This is brisk walking, where your heart rate is 60-70% of your maximum. At this intensity, your body primarily uses stored fat for energy. It's a highly effective and sustainable way to burn fat without grueling workouts. You can even amplify its effectiveness by doing it in a fasted state (before consuming calories via food or drink.) I do this first thing every morning!
