Making Food Work For You

LenDentonThrive Letter #52

Hey Brothers!

Welcome to the LenDentonThrive Letter!

I’m on a mission to help guys over the age of 50 lose weight, get fit, get stronger, and live longer. We do that by building thriving, healthy, and sustainable lifestyles. I call it the ThriveLife!

This week, let’s begin with a question:

Food is:

  • A - Fuel

  • B - Medicine

  • C - Poison

  • D - All of the above

Unfortunately, the correct answer is D. Food can be all of these things.

Our food choices are the single most important factor in how we look, how we feel, and how long we’ll live!

But, the sad truth is that our food is killing us! The #1 cause of death for American men is heart disease, a diet/lifestyle-related illness.

Yet most of us hardly ever think about how and what we eat. Or, we cringe when we think about going on a diet.

In today’s LenDentonThrive Letter, I’ll show you how to put your food to work for you, instead of constantly working against you.

And, best of all, with no diets!

Boxes, Cans, and Brands

Today, 60-90% of the food an average American consumes daily is highly processed. This means that most of us eat highly engineered, industrialized food daily. These are products from Big Food companies that have boxes, cans, and brands we’re all familiar with and have probably been eating since childhood.

The problem with these foods is that they contain large amounts of highly processed carbohydrates and sweeteners. So, while they taste good, they are high in calories. And to make things worse, the high levels of sugar and other sweeteners make these foods addictive!

Our consumption of highly processed foods is fueling the rise in obesity rates. This explosion in obesity has led to a not-so-surprising rise in diet-related illnesses. Today, 60% of Americans have 1 or more diet-related chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. (USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2020-2025.)

So, if you think your favorite boxes, cans and brands are working against you, you’d be right! These kinds of highly-processed foods are slowly poisoning us!

Putting Food To Work

What if we could turn the tables and put food to work for us instead of it always working against us? What if our food could help us to become lighter and leaner versions of ourselves? And what if we could do that without calorie-restricitve dieting?

Would that be interesting to you?

I actually figured out how to put my food to work for me 10 years ago. The result was that I lost 70 pounds in 7 months without dieting.

I didn’t go hungry. I didn’t cut calories.

Instead, I learned how to make different, better food choices. I swapped bad calories for good calories. I changed out the boxes, cans and brands that I’d been eating for most of my life for a new set of choices. Not less food, just different, healthier food.

The results were amazing. My weight and body fat went down, while my energy levels went up! And, the same process is still working today, 10 years later!

You can do the same thing in your own life.

I call this process Eating Smarter. I’ve created this simple 1-page guide called “The Too-Busy Guy’s Guide to Eating Smarter.”

This guide is just a brief overview. If you’d like to learn about how Eating Smarter can help you put food to work for you, then check out these additional resources here and here.

In Closing

As I said at the beginning, our food choices are the single most important factor in how we look, how we feel, and how long we’ll live!

That means that its possible to change your life simply by changing a few food choices. You don’t need to eat less or go hungry. You just need to make better food choices. It’s a smarter, not harder way to take control of your life and point your health in a new, better direction.

It’s worth it.

You’re worth it.

Enjoy your weekend!
