Helping Men Thrive At Every Age

Reading time: about 4 minutes
Hey Brothers,
I’m Len. Welcome back to the LenDentonThrive Letter.
This edition is going to be a bit of a departure from our normal routine. First, I want to share the worst-kept secret in the world with you. Then, I want to share some new developments with you that I’m excited about. I hope you’ll be excited, too! Let’s get to it.
The Worst-Kept Secret
You probably haven’t noticed this before, but the truth is:
I am a Thrivist!
It’s unlikely that you would have noticed that I constantly talk about creating your own ThriveLife. Or, that the name of the weekly newsletter I’ve been writing for more than two years is titled the LenDentonThrive Letter.
Both are hints of my not-so-secret identity.
I am a full-fledged, human-thriving maximalist!
That simply means that I want to see every single human thriving to the maximum extent possible.
Your skin color, your accent, or who you voted for does not matter.
I want you to thrive! Every day!
Why Thriving Matters
So, why is thriving so important?
Simply, because we are all God’s children.
God created every single one of us with an intention for us to thrive. And, He gave each of us the ability to thrive. It’s part of His design. He has given us tools to help us thrive, and He wants it to happen!
That alone conveys a level of dignity to every one of us.
And, when everyone is thriving, the world is a better place… for you, for me, for our families, our communities and our nations.
Better (thriving) men build thriving lives and thriving families. And thriving families are God’s basic building blocks for building a better, thriving world! (Thy Kingdom Come…)
Thriving matters!
How Do You Thrive?
A dictionary definition of thriving typically looks like this:
Prosperous and growing; flourishing
That sounds nice, but it lacks detail to help us understand how to thrive!
When I’ve written about building a ThriveLife in the past, I was referring specifically to how to thrive from a health and fitness perspective, and specifically to the 50+ men group. Going forward, I’ll broaden the focus of the newsletter in two specific ways.
First, I’ll expand the focus to include men of all ages. Think 15 to 105, because every man is called to thrive. We’ll look at how these principles apply to men at different stages of their lives.
Many times in my own life, I’ve thought, “Gee, I wish I’d known that 30 years ago!” Hopefully, we will help some younger men learn earlier than I did.
Second, I’ll expand the discussion from the domain of fitness to add three additional domains:
1 - Body (Fitness): health is your first wealth. It’s hard to thrive if you are in poor health. A strong and healthy body is the foundation of your ThriveLife.
2 - Soul (Mind): this area will address building thriving mindsets, relationships and marriage. This is the emotional/relational aspect of your ThriveLife.
3 - Spirit: this area will focus on our relationship with God, our spiritual identity and God’s concepts for thriving. This is the spiritual aspect of our ThriveLife.
4 - Treasure (Financial): Prosperity is a key part of God’s plan for men to thrive (the financial aspect of our ThriveLife). He wants us to be prosperous (in His way and for His purposes). It’s hard to imagine a thriving future plagued with money worries and lack. We’ll explore proven strategies to build strong family treasuries that have lasting legacy impact. We’ll talk to people who’ve already done it to show us the way to thrive financially.
What To Expect
Thriving is a complicated topic. It won’t look the same for any two men. But, I believe it will follow a set of themes and patterns that we can learn and copy. That will be the goal of this updated LenDentonThrive Letter.
I’ll continue to write about men’s fitness, but you can expect new material from all four domains (Body, Soul, Spirit and Treasure).
I’m also looking for ways to bring your voices into the conversation about thriving. To do that, I’ll be exploring some different tools like online communities or social platforms or even monthly webinars where we can gather to discuss the topics at hand. (If you have any thoughts on this, leave a comment on the web version of this newsletter.)
An Invitation
My writing has always been about thriving. However, going forward, I want to engage with you on a broader sense of what it means to truly thrive across all the areas of our lives. I think of it as a Whole Man Approach to Thriving.
I’m not coming at this like a guru, because I’m not a guru!
I’m approaching this more like an explorer, just like I have over the last two years on the topic of men’s fitness. I see it as my job to investigate, research, test, write, share and discuss important topics with you, my friends.
Through this process, we all get smarter. I think of the process (my mission) like this:
Learn - Write - Bring Light!
That’s what I’ve always tried to do. It should be an interesting journey.
I hope you’ll join me.
Let’s go!
Len
