Do You Need A Fitness Reset?

A Smarter, Not Harder Approach To Becoming Forever-Fit

Welcome back to the LenDentonThrive Letter. This is where I write every week about the ThriveLife - my food-first, gym-optional approach to help you lose weight, get fit, and stay fit for life!

I’m writing this in the middle of May. By now, most gyms and fitness centers are no longer crowded. Between 50-80% of this year’s New Year’s resolutions are now quietly waiting for another New Year.

Maybe this is you!

Maybe it was an injury…

Maybe your intentions were good, but you got overtaken by unseen and unplanned events.

Or, maybe a time-crunch where there were just too many bases to cover and not enough time…

Or, maybe your plan just didn’t fit how your life actually works.

So, whether it was a new gym membership or a new diet, it just didn’t work for you. And, here you are in mid-May with more frustration than results.

I get it! I’ve been there, too. More than once!

But, what if you could do a fitness reset? Something that could get you back on track toward a fitter and healthier you?

I’m not talking about just rebooting and starting over with the big goals you had on January 1st. Let’s not double down on that failure!

Instead, I suggest you try the “small habits approach.”

James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits, says: “small habits beat big goals every day!” He calls small daily habits the compound interest of self-improvement.

So, if you’ve found that your big fitness plans for 2026 have run out of gas, I suggest that it's time for a fitness reset built on a stack of small daily habits.

Twelve years ago, I experienced the power of change that small daily habits can bring to your life.  Six tiny daily habits helped me lose 70 pounds in just 7 months. Today, those same tiny habits are still keeping me healthy and at my goal weight.

This is my ThriveLife. It’s a food-first, gym-optional way to build a forever-fit life without starvation, calorie-counting, crazy diets, or killer workouts.

In the coming weeks, I’ll show you how any guy can build his own version of the ThriveLife. A version that is custom-tuned to how your life works.

But for now, I’ll just share my own six daily habits that are the scaffolding of my ThriveLife, along with a reference or two that give you a deeper view when you have time to take it in.

Habit #1 - Eat Smarter - Your weight loss battle will be won in the kitchen - not the gym! You don’t need to go on a crazy restrictive diet. You just need to fix your diet. You don’t need to eat less. You need to eat better. Make smarter choices.

Habit #2 - Move More - Motion is Medicine! You don’t need to lift heavy or spend hours in the gym to lose weight. The quickest way to burn excess fat and lose weight is Zone 2 cardio.

Habit #3 - Daily Weigh-In Ritual - One of the simplest, yet most powerful mental hacks I learned to drive weight loss was the daily weigh-in ritual. It’s so powerful that I call it my ‘Jedi Mind Trick!’

Habit #4 - Daily Meal Planning -  Just two simple questions:

  1. What am I doing today?

  2. What will I eat today?

Planning where your food will come from every morning may be the most productive 5 minutes of every day.

Habit #5 - Train Smarter - In the ThriveLife, the gym may be optional, but building strength isn’t! So, we focus on smart ways to build strength that fit your life - whether it's at the gym, at home or on the road.

Habit #6 - Sleep Better - Most guys need more sleep than they’re getting. Sleep is the super-drug for brain health and longevity. And, proper sleep reduces appetite.

These six tiny habits are the building blocks of the ThriveLife. Practice these habits every day to lose weight, get fit and stay fit for life! It’s the smarter, not harder way.

It's how you become forever-fit!
